Great article. I wish a few more 50+ men doing the impossible daily would be given such a mild "wake Up" call. Thank God for His mercies and use the opportunity it offers immediately to put those talents on the front burner! God bless you.Thank you Olufemi,It is surprising to see how many men in that age group are having heart attacks. You don't think it will happen to you and yet, it can. But in my husband's case, he was lucky. It was mild and a good wake-up call.
I am so sorry to hear about your husbands heart attack. My husband had to retire at 58 because of the stress at work. For the las 9 years of his job he was in quality control and on call 24/7. Fortunately he had 33 years with the company and so he had a pension and full medical. Maybe your hubby could do some independent contract for other companies and have less pressure. I will pray that God will lead you both in the right direction and that you both may prosper in every area of your lives. Thank you for sharing.Linda,Your husband was in a good position when he left his company. Unfortunately, mine is not. We are busily checking out the other possbilities and will keep you updated. Thanks for sharing,
Great article. Well done.I find the way you link his job to this fascinating. Perhaps he should take it slow but I doubt he will agree. There is no doubt in my mind that his job brought this on. He was actually entering the building when the attack began. Of course, just the fact that 4 others in his position have suffered the same tells me that it was caused by the nightmarish stress he daily endures. Thanks Connor
A diet laden with too much fat and not enough exercise, along with stress definately puts you at risk for a heart attack. I hope your husband can make the necessary changes in his life to become healthy. Easier said that done, for sure. Hope all goes well. Thanks Brianna,I hope so as well. So far the diet is working but the exercise -- that's another story.
I wish Phil all the best. Let this be an awakening. Phil must attain a normal Body Mass Index in the range of 18-25. Mild heart attacks may warn once. However, they are not so forgiving if they occur twice. God BlessDr. Rainer,Your words are powerful and I showed them to my husband. Thank you.
Wow, my hubby is going on 58 and has a strong cardiac history in his family - sort of hits close to home. Glad he is recovering and that you both see this as a flashing neon light... Praying that you will find the answers (practical and with wisdom!) MarijoMarijo,I'm glad the lightbulb went on...Phil has no history of cardiac problems in his family. His mother is 87 and in excellent shape.
Perhaps, but I'd think a 'non-heart attack' event, just pains would have been better. It does, sometimes, take a real slap in the face for us to reconsider or life styles. Good luck. Good, solid writing style. thanksJack,In Phil's case, pain alone would not have been enough. He needed the event to hit him as it did -- full fledge in the face. Thanks for reading.
Hi Nancy, this is scary news, but praise the Lord it was not serious. I am praying for change in diet and how he will pursue going back to this job. May God grace you with wisdom and open the door to creativity and provision. I love you both. Thanks for sharing. While you shared your heart, you also made some good points that each of us can glean from.Teresa,The wheels they are a-turnin'. God is with us in this, I am confident. By the way, a mild heart attack is serious. He is never allowed to lift heavy objects again and he's probably not allowed to run a marathon?! ? Oh well, I guess we'll manage without the latter -- LOL!Fortunately, however, there is something that is actually very good for his heart! And for that, we are more than grateful. Thanks bunches for your love,
Thanks for your comments. I like many middle-aged men sometimes ignore my health pursuing "more important" things. This is a great reminder for all of us.Matt,What seems to happen is that the heart attacks are striking men either in their 50's or not until much later in life. In all the commercials I am now noticing, the men who have had attacks (and are living to talk about it) are the guys in their 50's.Maybe it is time more men became aware of how serious this really is. But it is true, you never think it will happen to you or to someone in your own family. That was my 3rd thought in the hospital.
