This Darned Global Warming

It is 5:00 am in the morning. It is 29 degrees Fahrenheit. It is the 3 rd day of Spring. And, it is New Jersey, for crying out loud, not North Dakota!
Now let me see. If I remember correctly, the first snowfall in our area occurred on October 15 th , 2008. (No, it didn't lay, nor did it last, but it was definitely cold enough to have produced those lovely flakes that you generally don't see until it is close to freezing!) That would be more than 2 months before the official start of winter which, all told, means that we've had 5 months of winter this year. This is global warming?
Many years ago, in August of 1962, my parents had an inground pool built in our backyard. We have pictures of swimming in that pool at the end of October in 62 with the trees in the background bare of leaves. I also remember the first time we went in the pool the following year being April 30 th . That day went down in history in our house because no one swam in an unheated pool in April in New Jersey ! And, I also remember that we weren't allowed in the water until it was 65 degrees. Of course, each day my brothers and I would check the temperature, just waiting for it to hit the mark!
While I don't remember this personally, I do know that for several years in the 1930's, the mid-west experienced such a horrendous drought and heat wave, many of the farmers finally packed up their trucks and left their land, heading west. John Steinbeck even wrote a novel about it.
If this is global warming, can someone please explain what global cooling would be? I am tired of wearing a heavy coat and, personally, I would give my eye-teeth for a bit of global warming right about now!

More commentsThere is no doubt that the weather gets screwier every year! And like you, Nancy, I am as in the dark as the next about 'global warming' and 'climate changes'. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that there have definitely been some weird changes in the climate, but I don't think even rocket scientists know what is causing it or what to call it anymore. Thanks for putting it in writing for us.Best wishes.SandraSandra,This was just me venting and I thank you for reading it.I just wish people hadn't jumped on the bandwagon over something that has been happening for eons. And, I think we are going to be hit financially over this one in a big way.Nancy
Nancy, Global Warming is the direct result of Al Gore running his pie hole. Oops, sorry...Ken,Thank you for another early morning chuckle!Nancy
This is a very interesting article and I totally agree with your views. I myself have written an article about my views on Global warming stating we are not completely responsible. Thank you for this article.Matthew TaylorMatthew,I just read your article. Very good! Thanks for reading mine.Nancy
Hey Nancy, I'm just getting back to writing. Three Sunday's ago I just so happen to pass by one of the windows in my church and there it was, "Snow." "Wow" I thought especially since I now live in Georgia. This comes as no surprise in the North, but it was a little hard to perceive in Spring of the year and in Georgia.DeborahDeborah,That had to be a sight! Welcome back.Nancy
Hi Nancy. You made me laugh! Great article! It seems both sides of this debate has data to support its claims, but I tend to be one that believes things happen in cycles, cooler, then warmer. I do believe we are to be good stewards of this earth and that the God who created it knew animals, people and our inventions would bring about messes. Certainly these cycles help keep things in balance? Just my uneducated, politically incorrect opinion and I'm sure MANY disagree with me.Lorrie,Gosh, I do love to hear some political incorrectness. Actually, there are probably a few writers here at SW who would enjoy a little of it now and again. Thanks for reading and commenting.Nancy
I was taught in elementary school that the earth's climate has thousand-year cycles. So, to take a couple of degrees rise or drop and proclaim the End Of All Things seems kind of silly. How so many people have been . . . 'informed' this way is beyond me. Sure, Man affects his environment. This we know. Yet do we change the course of the weather? Are we really that . . . arrogant?Very well done.Michael,No, not all of us are really that arrogant...Thank you for reading.Nancy
Hello Nancy,Climate change indeed. You are weary of wearing your heavy coat wheras, here in my country we are struggling with heat. The mercury keeps rising each ear. People die of sun stroke in my hometown every year.I think WE are responsible to some extent for all this confusion in climate.Thank you for this wonderful article. very well written.regards,SwapnaSwapna,I am sorry to hear of what is happening where you live. I personally do not believe that we are in global warming, but I would call it climate change and that has been happening since the beginning of time.I wish for you some cool days ahead!Nancy
This is a serious issue you discussed here. Very nice article. We need to think about our world seriously...Chiradeep,People over here are taking this very seriously.Nancy
Hi Nancy!Bravo to you for having the courage to say what I believe most of us are thinking.I remember as a child one year in Central Illinois the snow drifts where honestly as high as our house. The whole community was shut down for days and days.We don't see so much of that anymore, so if THAT is the result of global warming, I'm all for it!!!BTW, snow predicted for this area over the weekend! UGH!!It was 70 Tuesday! I want Tuesday back!!!!NNila,As much as I would love to remember lots of snow in New Jersey, I don't. Our superintendent was from Minnesota. Other communities would cancel school if they got an inch, but not in my hometown.Where I live right now? If they think we are in for a blast, they cancel the night belore!Nancy
I agree, it is getting colder every year. I am actually getting skeptical about "Global Warming".Nice article.Dear Mr. Home,Thank you for your comment. The media is going to have us believe in global warming no matter what. If you do some research, you will discover that, if anything, we are in a period of global cooling.Nancy
