Submitting articles to various website for business or pleasure is a daunting experience for many people just from the fact that each site has different formats for getting your material onto their page. Of course, as soon as you have figured out the logistics for each and every site, someone changes it up,' so to speak which throws you another curve ball!
I have tried copying and pasting from Word which never works correctly, copying and pasting to Notepad and then copying and pasting to SW which is ineffective and most recently, copying and pasting from WordPro. I often find mistakes in the published article that were not in the original: I have enough mistakes as it is without formatting creating more! Once I even tried pasting into HTML, believing that maybe I would learn something I didn't know. I didn't
There must be a step that I am missing. Please advise because I would dearly love to copy and paste just once with the right results.
What am I doing wrong?

More commentsGreat article. Well done.I often have problems with pictures and get the same double spacing happening. Sadly, I don't know the answer but would like to find out.Perhaps, you could post it on the Q and A becasue Bruce hangs out in the SearchWarp support bit and he should know the answer.Connor,I knew I should have posted this as a Q & A, but I figured my 'article' was too long for that. Will do, however. Love the statement about where Bruce hangs out! Also knew you'd be here. Thanks.
I,as a blatant technophobe and one who just learned to type, have also agonized, similarly stumped and thwarted at every turn submitting 'proper pragraphing' and other technical requirements that either caused 'blocked' articles or gained me a reprimand from Bruce;with his help I have managed.I am sure that on request he will acquiesce to assisting you as well.Paul,From the comments I am receiving, I will just keep plodding along and keep tweaking as need be. Thank you for your comment.
Hi Nancy. Great article, good question. I have the same problem but has learned how to do it from my word processor. Bruce will explain it to you better than I can.Enjoyable read. ~Nenita~Nenita,I am glad to see that I am not alone in my dilemma. Notepad is probably how I will go and manually fix those tidbits that crop up. Thank you.
I think the best method is using notepad. All the other programs are Rich Text Editors, meaning you can make something bold, underline etc. Each time you do that it add "code" that you are copy/pasting into each site's editor. This code will be received differently on each site.Notepad, however, is not a rich text editor and you can only do regular text. You can then copy/paste the contents into sw and edit it there if need be.Steve,From all that I am seeing re comments, I will use Notepad and edit as need be. Thanks for the advice.
Hi Nancy, a good article question. Steve is correct. There are some databases which will drive you crazy if you copy from MS Word and directly to the other database. Searchwarp is pretty kind, usually you won't get much damage on theirs. But, I've learned that I can best type mine on MS Word, then copy it and past it into Notepad. Notepad will do away with all the added codes that mess you up. Then copy it from Notepad and paste into Searchwarp. It works real well unless you have some portions italicized, or underlined, etc. It will normally undo those factors. But you can go back through quickly and replace the italics or whatever. Hope that helps.Joel,In truth I have more difficulty with SW than any of the other sites I submit to. I write in code for at least 5 other sites -- and then change it for a few others. With SW, I will use Notepad, paste, then edit. Thanks for reading and commenting.
Good question. I too will have to check out Bruce's answer. I am definitely not a techie.Linda DLinda,I would like to hear from Bruce as well. We will see. Thanks,
I just read your article from the readers club and sent my through the wrong venue, so I am resending my response so I can get my points. I told you I am not very techie.
Hi Nancy. I have this problem myself. When I copy and paste, it does work sometimes. Great article and thank you for sharing.I am reading your article via the Reader's club, so I am commenting again. Nenita
Hi Nancy! My experience has been pretty good, with the exception of pictures. But, it seems that program language differences might be to blame. I agree with Connor- talk to Bruce, he is the SW chief!Ken,Thanks for your comment; interestingly, the one problem I don't have is inserting pictures. It's is just the rest of the stuff that frustrates the dickens out of me (Have to admit. Would really like to see a preview page that looks like a preview page as well.)
Hi Nancy, thanks for bringing up this question...
Copying from MS Word and pasting anywhere for consumption on the Internet has it's challenges. I've tried to make it as easy as possible, but it's still not that simple.
Using the current HTML editor, the advice already given to use notepad is sound advice. Notepad strips out the special characters so that only the text is pasted into the HTML editor. Of course the problem is that if you have any special formatting, like bold words or lists, they will have to be added back in using the HTML editor.
Something you might not have tried is the "Clean up HTML" option. If you paste from Word, you can then click the little yellow paintbrush that's near the right end of the bottom toolbar of the HTML editor. You'll then have the option to remove Word formatting, styles, and font and span tags. Usually it works well to click each button except "Remove All HTML Tags". Then there's the confusing part: to finish, click "Cancel," which doesn't cancel the changes, it only closes the menu.
Something you might not be aware of is that SearchWarp editors have a button that says "Remove Major Formatting" which is a quick and easy way to do this. When you see that your article has changed a little after it is reviewed, it's most likely because of this function. Maybe it would be a good idea to make this function available to members as well.
There are a few things I'm working on to make the process easier. I've been testing a new HTML editor that works much more smoothly than the current one, and it removes Word formatting while being much better at maintaining the look of an article. I'm also working on an alternative to the HTML editor which will allow multi-page articles (or short stories) to be pasted, formatted and separated into pages all automatically. Hopefully this will add a new dimension to SearchWarp.
Keep up the great writing, and great questions! Thanks, Bruce, and good to hear from you.I will print out your comment and 'paste' it to my desk for future reference. In your search for a smoother program, I hope you can find one with a good preview page. (Those that throw in a new page for preview are easier to work with because your eyes see the new page differently than the one in which you are editing -- much like what happens when we submit our comments here and view them in a different screen.)Again, my thanks and I look forward to seeing what you select.I knew Bruce would come through, and save the day :)
