If I Had 3 Wishes

Oddly enough, all of my wishes deal with child-rearing. I think many of the problems we are encountering today as a society can be explained by how we are raising our children or, better yet, how we are not raising our children. I am also confident that my ideas will not be taken well by many of my readers which bothers me not. If more people agreed with me, there would be fewer problems. What is really interesting is that my three wishes are not new, not novel, and not unique. They are three ways of raising children that have worked for thousands of years and thousands of generations. Unfortunately, they are not considered the norm anymore.
2. Make dinner and eat together as a family every night. Talk to your kids. It is the best way of knowing what they’re thinking and what they’re doing. It is also the best means of providing good nutrition. And, while I am at it: do not let your children drink soda with their meals. That is one of the reasons we have such a problem with obesity today. Studies have shown that excessive drinking of soda leads to higher weight gain than the same calories ingested as food.
3. Encourage your kids to play outside more and inside less. Give them a sliding board and swings and be darned what the school boards think. Children will fall down; they will skin their knees; and, they may even break a leg. Restricting our children from exploring and enjoying life outside the house is more dangerous to their health than a broken arm.
In truth, I could ask for a lot more wishes when it comes to children and their needs; however, I think this list is a good beginning.

Always good to hear from you as well. Interesting, I'm listening to the BBC and they are talking about the rioting. What does it boil down to? Lack of parenting.
Best care always,
Nancy
